Smokin JoeIs this the same plans as the old Cherokee?4 months ago
Tony HalloNot the old one was a 1/4 scale ARF by RC Guys. I redid the plane to my liking. This is a 30% scale using Hostettler plans with many changes. This plane is 108" span, a little bigger than the old one. it will look the same.4 months ago
I lost the plane in my avatar this past summer so I'm building another Cherokee, 30%25 from Hostettler plans. Of couse I'm changing a few things. 108" span power by a Roto 85 four stroke twin, same that powers the Champ.
I74Looked much better,, engine sounded like it was laboring though.11 months ago
Tony HalloWaiting for a calm day for the next flight, reduced aileron throws a little more and added more differential at the low rate. I was at full throttle for 15 seconds during take off and climb, telemetry indicated 5700-5800 rpm during that period, prop is a 26 x 8. The rpm is just about perfect for a scale sound at full throttle. I may try a 10 pitch to slow it down a little once I'm happy with the...Waiting for a calm day for the next flight, reduced aileron throws a little more and added more differential at the low rate. I have 4 temperature indications on the cylinders an so far they seem to be running in the 220F - 230F range.Show more11 months ago
I74Other than aerobatic planes, I generally dial in as little ailerons as possible,, & more up than down on differential.. learned that on setting up Sailplanes.. I like around 25% expo pretty much on all aileron set ups also, regardless of what it is,, & around 30% expo on elevator... Rudder,, pretty much max, with no expo... My comment about the engine,, to me it sounded better on the first...Other than aerobatic planes, I generally dial in as little ailerons as possible,, & more up than down on differential.. learned that on setting up Sailplanes.. Smokin JoeThat's exactly my expo setup. 25% on ailerons and elevator, 0 on rudder and rudder on full throw! 10 months ago
Smokin JoeNice flight Tony! That cherokee was a super nice plane!10 months ago
Tony HalloThanks Joe but it wasn't that good. All in all a bad year so far, dinged up the landing gear on the Champ last time out, lost the Cherokee before that due a very stupid error on my part, took off in range test mode! A new 30% Cherokee is underway.10 months ago
Smokin JoeThat is going to be a nice project!10 months ago
